AI Literacy Readings - Perusall Discussion

Engage critically with AI concepts and connect with classmates

Purpose

To encourage critical thinking about AI to build AI literacy and prepare you for engaging with AI feedback
To encourage engagement with the reading and build community among students

Assignment Requirements

For homework credit, make four comments or replies to classmates' comments. Make sure that the comments are on different parts of the assignment (not all on the first of the readings).

Comments might include:

Trying to summarize a point in your own words to see if you've understood and to help yourself integrate the idea
Personal reactions and opinions
Examples of what the text is talking about that come from your own experience or knowledge
Connections to other readings or other knowledge you have
Requests for clarification/expressions of confusion
Replies to classmates' questions or comments

Tools and Rules

You are welcome to use grammar-checking software such as Grammarly to check your comments before you submit them (just be skeptical of the suggestions—as we'll see in a later assignment, Grammarly does get it wrong sometimes)
No other AI use. This assignment is designed for maximal learning when you do the idea generation, writing, and revision

Grading

This is our first Perusall assignment! You will first see the score you would have gotten if it were graded for content (the way Perusall assignments usually are graded). However, since it is the first Perusall assignment of the term, your grade will be converted to "completion" after a couple of weeks. This means you will be given full credit for completing at least four comments and completing all readings/viewings of the assignment.
